Kundudo Mountain – Ethiopia’s Hidden Wild Horse Adventure
Place
Kundudo Mountain
In eastern Ethiopia, not far from the historic city of Harar, rises one of the country’s most unique adventure destinations: Kundudo Mountain.
Description
Kundudo is a dramatic flat-topped mountain, or amba, located in East Hararghe, Oromia. Its summit reaches around 2,965 meters above sea level, giving travelers wide views of the surrounding highlands, valleys, villages, and open landscapes.
What makes Kundudo truly special is its rare population of wild horses. These horses live on the mountain’s high plateau and are considered one of the last remaining wild horse populations in East Africa.
The summit area is a natural grazing ground, creating a powerful and unforgettable sight for travelers who love wildlife, photography, trekking, and remote adventure.
Wild Horses, Trekking & Highland Views
Kundudo is not a simple sightseeing destination. It is an adventure journey, a place for travelers who enjoy hiking, camping, rural landscapes, local culture, and raw natural beauty.
The trail to the mountain gives visitors a chance to walk through village scenery, rocky paths, open grassland, and highland viewpoints before reaching the peaceful world of the wild horses.
The experience feels different from Ethiopia’s famous historical routes. Kundudo is quiet, wild, and deeply connected to the land. The beauty is in the journey itself: the mountain air, the trekking path, the local communities, the sunset over the highlands, and the rare moment of seeing wild horses moving freely across the plateau.
Kundudo Mountain is not just a mountain. It is Ethiopia’s hidden wild horse adventure, where trekking, camping, mountain views, local culture, and rare wildlife come together in one unforgettable eastern Ethiopia experience.
